Dragon Chase

“Jessie, come back!!” I called after my dragon as I raced down the hill. She had gotten out of her pen, and thankfully her wings had been clipped so she couldn’t fly away, but even then she was still a very fast runner. I knew it was very unlikely for me to outrun a dragon, but I had to try. I had an idea. I knew there was a small creek just beyond the next hill, and Jessie didn’t like water. She would have to either stop or turn around, then I could catch her and strap on her harness. As I reached the top of the second hill, I saw Jessie nearing the creek. Get ready. I thought to myself. But when she got to the creek, instead of stopping, she simply turned to the left and headed towards the woods. I cringed. Of Course! How could I be so brainless! I had to think fast, I reached inside my pocket and smiled. I had a leftover starfruit from lunch, Jessie's favorite. I looked at her path to the woods, aimed, and threw it as hard as I could. It hurled across the field and landed right in front of Jessie. She skidded to a stop, sniffed the fruit, and chowed down. I did a small victory dance then quickly but quietly proceeded down the hill. Jessie soon finished her snack just in time for me to get into position. The minute she started up again, I swiftly sprain onto her back and strapped in her harness. She struggled at first, but then finally gave a begrudging snort of defeat. Jessie then thumped her tail on the ground to show she enjoyed the chase.
