Panic!!!
“Run!!” I screamed when I heard the first bomb go off. Jamie looked terrified. I had to
stay calm. “Get to the safe house! Mom will meet you there!” I Grabbed my
brother’s arm.
“Come on Benny! We need to get to the safe house!”
“but Teddy is still inside!” He said as tears began to form in his eyes.
“Ok, go with your sister to Mom, I'll get Teddy.”
Benny nodded and ran for the bomb shelter while I ran toward the house.
“Teddy! Teddy! Where are you!?” I called earnestly. I peeked under the beds, and
opened all the cabinets, but Teddy was nowhere to be found! Wait! I bet he’s in
Benny’s stuffed animal pile.
“There you are!” I said as I lifted Benny’s orange little
kitten out of the pile. Then I ran as fast as I could out of our house and to the
bomb shelter.
“Mom! Open the door!” I said as I pounded the metal frame.
I heard the door unlock as it was yanked open.
I could hear the sound of bombs
falling as I dove inside.
“Did you get Teddy!?” Benny asked anxiously.
“Yes.” I said. Exhausted, I handed him the kitten. He squealed with delight as he Hugged
Teddy tightly. Me, Benny, Jamie, mom and Teddy, huddled together as the
explosions got lesser and lesser. Even after the last bomb went off, we stayed in
for what seemed for hours, too scared to move. Finally, we heard a knock at the
door.
“Hello?” A muffled voice called from outside.
“Come in.” Mom said shakily
as she unlocked the door. When it opened, it revealed a tall blond man with a kind smile on his face. “Daddy!” we all shouted for joy. “I was so worried, I came here as soon as they let me.” he said crouching so he wouldn't hit his head on the low ceiling.
“...How bad is it out there?” I asked hesitantly.
Daddy's smile disappeared. “We lost a lot of soldiers and a lot of people have lost their homes, thank goodness it’s over.”
“Caddie saved Teddy!” Benny gushed as he thrust his kitten to daddy.
“You did?” He looked at me.
I blushed. “Well, he was only hiding in Benny’s room, he wasn’t too hard to find.”
“How’s our house? Is it gone?” Jamie asked.
"Thankfully, it’s fine. Just a couple shatters windows and missing shingles.” Daddy said, smiling again. We soon left the shelter and surveyed the surrounding damage. There were many stray pieces of fence, branches, glass, and even some furniture. As I walked along the crooked sidewalks, I heard a whimpering sound. I looked around and saw something moving under a pile of rubble. I gently dug through it and found a brown speckled dog trapped under a fallen Bulletin board and some bricks. I quickly called Daddy and together we got him out. The dog gave a grateful yip to show he was very happy to be rescued. He had a collar, but it didn’t have any tags.
“He was probably forgotten in all the chaos.” I said softly.
“His name is Stanly!” Jamie announced.
“How do you know?” I asked curiously.
“I just do!” She huffed.
“Alright! Stanly it is!” I agreed.
“Can Stanly come home with us?” Jamie asked.
“Oh, I don't know…” Mom said, eyeing the dog suspiciously.
“Please?”
Mom and Daddy looked at each other and nodded.
“Alright, but just for the night.” Mom muttered.
Jamie celebrated and hugged Stanley tight.
