Reindeer Games 5

Through the following weeks, Rudolph taught, educated, and prepared the eight for the big night. It was Christmas eve eve, and the reindeer were ready…Almost.

“Today we are practicing pulling the sleigh.” Rudolph said, while Santa’s elves hitched them up.  At the front was Rudolph, Then Dasher and Comet, Dancer and Prancer, Vixen and Cupid, and at the back, Donner and Blizen. For once, Rudolph was second-guessing himself. On the first day of practice, they learned to fly… except Donner.  And with all the other lessons, he had forgotten to properly teach him. He could only hope Donner had practiced by himself. “Here we go!” Rudolph said, trying to sound confident. One of the elves sat in the sleigh.

“On Dasher! On Dancer! On Prancer on Vixen! On Comet! On Cupid! On Donner on Blitzen! Dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!” He yelled.

They were off like a shout… Sort of. Rudolph and Blizen, being the professionals, were gliding smoothly. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for the rest of the team. Dasher and Comet were going way too fast, Vixen and Cupid were going way too slow, Dancer’s and Prancer’s antlers were hooked together, and Donner- like Rudolph had feared- just simply wasn’t ready. He had a wild scared look in his eyes as he frantically tried to keep up with the others. The elf in the sleigh bounced high in the air with each bump they hit. (Thank Goodness he was holding onto the reins)

“Stop!!” He yelled. The reindeer shamefully do so. “What was that!? If you are ever going to bring Santa around the world, you might even be better off leaving a couple reindeer behind!” The elf said, eyeing Donner. They hung their heads.

Rudolph brightened. “I know! Let’s get Santa! Maybe having him in the sleigh will give us a little Christmas spirit boost!”

“You rang?” Santa asked, appearing around the corner.

The elf that rode in the sleigh ran up to him. “Santa! Don’t do it!”

“Don’t do what Larry?” he asked.

“Ride in the sleigh! These reindeer are out of control!” So called Larry said.

    “Oh boy.”

“Santa! Thank Goodness you're here! Would you mind sitting in this sleigh here?” Rudolph asked, overjoyed.

Santa looked at the sleigh, then looked at the reindeer. “Uh… You know, I really gotta go… I um, have some toys to make…” He said backing away.

“Don’t the elves make the toys?” Dancer asked. Santa started running.

“What are we going to do?” Dasher asked.

“I don't know, I just don’t know.” Rudolph answered, walking away.
