Panic!!!

Image
“Run!!” I screamed when I heard the first bomb go off. Jamie looked terrified. I had to  stay calm. “Get to the safe house! Mom will meet you there!” I Grabbed my  brother’s arm. “Come on Benny! We need to get to the safe house!”      “but Teddy is still inside!” He said as tears began to form in his eyes.      “Ok, go with your sister to  Mom, I'll get Teddy.” Benny nodded and ran for the bomb shelter while I ran toward the house.  “Teddy! Teddy! Where are you!?” I called earnestly. I peeked under the beds, and  opened all the cabinets, but Teddy was nowhere to be found! Wait! I bet he’s in  Benny’s stuffed animal pile. “There you are!” I said as I lifted Benny’s orange little  kitten out of the pile. Then I ran as fast as I could out of our house and to the  bomb shelter. “Mom! Open the door!” I said as I pounded the metal frame. I heard the door unlock as it was yanked open. I could hear the so...

Dragon Chase

Image
“Jessie, come back!!” I called after my dragon as I raced down the hill. She had gotten out of her pen, and thankfully her wings had been clipped so she couldn’t fly away, but even then she was still a very fast runner. I knew it was very unlikely for me to outrun a dragon, but I had to try. I had an idea. I knew there was a small creek just beyond the next hill, and Jessie didn’t like water. She would have to either stop or turn around, then I could catch her and strap on her harness. As I reached the top of the second hill, I saw Jessie nearing the creek. Get ready. I thought to myself. But when she got to the creek, instead of stopping, she simply turned to the left and headed towards the woods. I cringed. Of Course! How could I be so brainless! I had to think fast, I reached inside my pocket and smiled. I had a leftover starfruit from lunch, Jessie's favorite. I looked at her path to the woods, aimed, and threw it as hard as I could. It hurled across the ...

Dragon Tales

Image
My name is Ember, I live in the north woods with my Uncle Sneezeweed. The north woods are great, but sometimes it gets a little boring! Don't get me wrong, I love my life as a dragon, I just wish something would happen! Everyday I wake up, eat breakfast, run errands and do chores, do my lessons and go to bed!! Nothing ever happens! Well, actually, the royals are coming to the north woods, so that will be fun! Until next time, Ember I sighed as I put my letter in an envelope. I was writing to my new pen pal. I didn't really feel like writing to someone I hardly knew, but it was a school project so if I wanted good grades, I had to write to some dragon from the east coast. Which, I didn’t see much use, I mean, what’s the point of “getting to know someone” if you can't even really know if they're telling the truth! -Whimsical Writer

Filly willies

“I’m not coming.”  I said flatly.      “Come oooon! Our plane leaves in an hour, we have to go!” Judy protested.      “I can’t!” I argued. Judy threw her hands up in defeat. “I can't make you go.” she said, flopping onto my bed. I sighed, and sat down next to her. “I'm sorry, but I just can’t.”      “But Lily, we never get to see grandma and grandpa at their ranch anymore!” Judy said.      “There's a reason for that.” I said, hugging my knees.      “Lily, that was one horse, and you know grandma made sure that he was sent away after he bucked you.” she said reassuringly. I fidgeted with my bracelet uncertainly.      “ And grandma said she would make her famous apple pie!” Judy grinned. I smiled weakly. “Alright, I guess so, but only if we get to sleep in the bunk room.” I said.      “Of course!” Judy said, springing off the bed. She grinned mischievously, “La...

Cold Weather, Cats, and Coffee

Image
I grasped my hands tightly around my favorite mug, the hot coffee warmed my fingers. I closed my eyes and took a long, slow sip. Ahhh… I felt my cat, Ginger, rub against my legs. She meowed softly as if to say, “Hello? I’m here too!” I smiled as I picked her up and walked to my front door. Through the frosty glass I could see snowflakes drifting down onto the white landscape. I breathed a happy sigh. Ginger meowed again to be let out, but when I opened the door, a frigid gust of wind blew in! She sprang out of my arms and hid under the table. I quickly shut the door and latched it. “Looks like today will be the kind of day to curl up with a good book!” I said to Ginger. -Whimsical Writer
