“So you are saying, you were walking your dog when a portal opened in front of you and a wizard popped out, pointed his wand at you and another portal opened beneath you, and you and your dog fell though, traveled through space and time for about five seconds, then landed in this castle?” Susan asked, her head tilted.  “I know it sounds crazy, but dragons sound crazy in our world.” I tried to explain.  Bon Bon barked in agreement.  “Do you know anyone who could help me get back to my world?”  Susan thought for a moment. “Well, my father- The king may be able to help you, but he is in a meeting with the corner kings right now. He will be done in about an hour.” I sighed. “Is there anyone sooner? I need to be home.”  “I’m sorry, but you will just have to wait.” she said. We waited. And waited. “So… wanna play rock paper scissors?” I asked after a while. “Play what?” Susan asked. “Never mind. Oh! I know!” I said as I pulled out my phone. “There may be no Wi-Fi, but...

A couple of them burst out laughing.       “It’th not thunny!” He said, his face burning red.       “Let’s get you unstuck.” Rudolph said. he couldn’t hide his amused face. He pulled Commit’s antlers.      “Ow! Ow! Ow! Thtop! That Hurths!” Commit said. Rudolph stopped and looked at him.       “It is foolish to lick ice, and I don’t know how else to get you unstuck!” he said sternly.  Commit hung his head.       “Wait! I know!” Dasher said. “What if we just break the icicle off at the top!” (Dasher and Commit were friends, so if one was in trouble the other was sure to help him out)  Rudolph thought for a moment then agreed. Then Santa came up the Chimney and saw Commit.       “Ho! Ho! Ho! Don’t you know it is foolish to lick ice?”       “I do now.” he mumbled.       “Santa, will you do us a favor by breaking this icicle?” Ru...

They flew high in the air over the ocean.      “This is so awesome!” Dasher said. A s they were making their way to the first house, Rudolph was struck with sudden fear. They had never practiced roof landings! He looked back at the rest of the team, and they were thinking the same thing. But Thankfully, Santa knew just what to do. He pulled the reins left, then right, getting the reindeer in line for a perfect descent onto the roof. They cheered, then remembered their training and went into silent mode. Santa nimbly jumped off the sleigh. “I still got it!” He said. But the roof was more slippery than he had expected. “I Don’t got it!” He said as he slid to the edge.      “I got you!” Rudolph said, leaping to his side. Santa grabbed on to his antler just before he slipped off the gutter.      “Thanks! But who’s got you?”      “I do!” Dancer said, grabbing Rudolph's hoof. The other reindeer made sure the sleigh didn’t slide, whil...

Reindeer Games 7

It was finally the big night, and everyone was excited. A festive buzz filled the air. All the gifts had been wrapped and were ready to go in Santa’s bag, Santa’s suit was ironed, and the team was hitched to the sleigh. The reindeer pawed at the ground impatiently.       “I’m soooo excited!” Dancer exclaimed.       “Me too! But I'm also a little nervous.” Added Commit, which was surprising coming from the usually confident, and speedy buck.       “We’re exervous!” Cupid exclaimed, giddy with glee.       “Ex-what?” Blizen asked, baffled.       “Ex, er, vous! It’s when you are excited and nervous!” She explained.  Soon Santa came, with his sack full of toys on his back, and wearing his newly ironed suit.       “Ho! Ho! Ho! I am in quite the jolly mood!”  He said, climbing into the sleigh.       “Are you ready?” Rudolph asked the team.  ...

They really didn’t know what to do. After Rudolph left, no one felt like doing anything. Even Blizen, sat silently still hitched to the sleigh, Donner’s legs were still shaking, and Dancer’s and Prancer’s antlers were still hooked! But after what seemed like hours, Rudolph came back, with a grin on his face.      “Hello again!” He said cheerfully. No one could look him straight in the eye.      “Rudolph?” Donner finally said.      “Yes?”      “I’m really sorry about the sleigh ride.”      “Yeah.”      “Sorry.” The others chimed in too.      “Guys! It’s ok! It’s not your fault!” Rudolph said reassuringly. They brightened a bit.      “But how are we going to pull Santa's sleigh around the world now?” Vixen asked.      “Not to worry! I… Have a plan!”      “Oh boy.” Larry said, with his arms folded across his chest. “ Here is a plan! If you re...

Reindeer Games 5

Through the following weeks, Rudolph taught, educated, and prepared the eight for the big night. It was Christmas eve eve, and the reindeer were ready…Almost.      “Today we are practicing pulling the sleigh.” Rudolph said, while Santa’s elves hitched them up.  At the front was Rudolph, Then Dasher and Comet, Dancer and Prancer, Vixen and Cupid, and at the back, Donner and Blizen. For once, Rudolph was second-guessing himself. On the first day of practice, they learned to fly… except Donner.  And with all the other lessons, he had forgotten to properly teach him. He could only hope Donner had practiced by himself. “Here we go!” Rudolph said, trying to sound confident. One of the elves sat in the sleigh.      “On Dasher! On Dancer! On Prancer on Vixen! On Comet! On Cupid! On Donner on Blitzen! Dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!” He yelled. They were off like a shout… Sort of. Rudolph and Blizen, being the professionals, were gliding smoothly. Unf...

Reindeer Games 4

The third day of training was- hey! That kind of sounds like a song! On the third day of training, dear Rudolph said to me, hey, let’s train for emergencies! On the fourth- uh, ahem, anyway. Rudolph gathered inside the school for this particular lesson. “Today we are going to learn to expect the unexpected!” Rudolph said, winking at Vixen. “Because if something unexpected happens while we are delivering presents, we need to be ready!” He walked closer to his students. “Let’s say while Santa is delivering presents, and you are waiting on the roof, Santa calls for you to come down to him. So you go through the window, but as you are coming in, you step on a squeaky toy that loudly lets out a squeak that wakes up the kid who sleepily walks in the room…What do you do!” He asked, pointing at Donner. “Well, I, uh-” He stutters. “Wrong! What about you!” Rudolph asked, then pointing at Dancer. “Um…Run away?” She tried. “Come on guys! You!” He said, Pointing at Cupid. “You could give the kid a ...

The next day was carrot training. “Ok, so one thing you need to know when delivering presents is that kids leave out carrots, lettuce, and sooooo many other things for the reindeer.” Rudolph said. “Doesn't sound that bad to me!” Commit said, licking his lips. Blizen shook his head. “Well not at first. But if you think about it, there are over two billion kids in the world, and let's say there are five kids in each house, and there are about forty houses in a neighborhood, if each child gave a carrot…Carry the one…Divide the seven…Well, It would be a lot of carrots.'' Rudolph explained. “But don’t worry! If Santa can do it, so can we!” The rest of them didn’t look so sure. “Anyway, if you want to become glorious young coursers, you have to do this.” He said, revealing eight large piles of carrots, lettuce, and things they hadn’t even heard of. “When I say go, start chowing! Let's see who can finish first!” Once they heard the word, the reindeer quickly set to work. Y...

Today was December first, the first day of training. Rudolph met his students outside the school.      “Alright! I, as you all know, am Rudolph, your coach to becoming glorious young coursers pulling Santa's sigh.”      “Rudolph?” Vixen said, raising her hoof.      “Yes?”      “What will happen if one of us isn't ready in time for Christmas?” She asked.      “Oh, I don’t plan on letting that happen!” He answered. Vixen still looked skeptical. “Any other questions?...Ok! Let’s get started! The first step to becoming a glorious young courser, is learning how to fly. Who wants to go fir-”      “Me! Me! ME!!!” That was Dasher.       “You seem eager! On three, one, two, three!” Dasher was off like a shot, but soon crashed into a tree before getting very far. “Very good!  You got into the air! (and the tree) Next!” One by one the reindeer started, ran, jumped, flew, crashed, and ...

Reindeer Games

Image
Once upon a time, deep in the north pole, there was a reindeer named Rudolph, who- if you know the song- never got to play reindeer games and was just generally looked down upon. so, after saving his parents, his girlfriend, and all of Christmas, he decided to open a school, so any reindeer- glowing nose or not- would get a chance at joining Santa’s sleigh team. Every year, Rudolph would choose eight lucky reindeer from his school to be trained to fly around the world helping Santa deliver his presents. And these are the eight this year; Dasher, an energetic young buck who never slows down, Dancer, a graceful doe who loves anything that jingles, Prancer, sister to Dancer and stylish in every way, Vixen, a detailed doe who always needed to know exactly everything, Comet, the fastest on the team who can’t stand getting interrupted mid speech, Cupid, not only is she small, she has the largest, most innocent eyes you have ever seen,  Donner, a quiet buck, and has only been at the schoo...

A day in a Hallmark Christmas

Image
Dear, Bunny Today we had the most wonderful time! It is only the 2nd day of December, but It already feels like Christmas! Our first stop was pictures with Santa. He was a jolly old fellow, and told the funniest jokes! My favorite he told was; “Do you know why I never give children money for Christmas? Because we have snow banks up in the north pole and all my assets are frozen!!” Next we stopped by the library to return a CD. But as we were checking out, A librarian walked up with a smile on her face. She said,      “Hello! I wanted to let you know we’re having a gingerbread house making event, and there are four spots left if you are interested.” Four spots left!! We joyfully accepted. There were gumdrops, peppermints, licorice and more to decorate our houses. It was fun to see all the different gingerbread houses everyone made! Once we returned home, we had some hot cocoa with candy canes. Then we went out again to do a little Christmas shopping, I would tell yo...
